Copy of Partition

hi,
Is it possible to get a copy of the current partition. I would like to perform some checks in a system that is independent of the main database. By this manner, there won't be any loss of data in the main partition and moreover, this won't affect the entire project.

Hi Matthew,

unfortunately I don't understand what exactly you are trying to achieve. If you partition out your module, you have a partition file. By default you can import this file to another (or more than one) database. You can unlock your partition in the main database, so you can work on the modules again, but if you do so you will not be able to read back the returned partition.

So using the partition file, you can make as many "copies" of the data as you want (by importing it to any databases). But I guess this is not what you want to do?

Regards, Mathias

Actually, there is a database present in another location(say location A). That is our original database for the project. Now I'm at the other location(say location B) and want to perform some checks in that partition. So i need an exact replica of the partition. Is it possible to take a copy of the partition without the permission from the person in location A?

There are 3 ways of transferring data between DOORS databases:

a) Archive and Restore Project: This will enable you to archive a complete project and restore it in an identical state at another database. Exception: Access Rights will be set to "Inherited" for ALL items, if you restore to a different database. Links will be restored correctly as long as they are contained in the project.

b) Partitioning: Partitions are special Archives, that can be exported from a DOORS database. The exported Modules will be write locked in the home database, so this is obviously not what you want.

c) Backup of the Server Repository: If you can manage to make a copy of the server data directory you can restore the whole database in the exact same state.

For a and b your user needs special access rights configured in DOORS for you. For c you need access to the doors database server machine. So you cannot just "steal" the data from DOORS (at least if it is set up correctly).
